Sabres 8, Canadians 5

Sabres explode for 8 goals in victory over Montreal in Dainius Zubrus’ debut. Rookie Mike Ryan scores his first two NHL goals playing in his eighth game with Buffalo. The Canadians, desperate for a playoff spot, countered quickly against four of the Sabres’ goals, but could not match Buffalo’s powerful offense. Vanek also scores two, including an empty-netter, while Roy, Kalinin, Stafford, and Numminen each net one goal. Jochen Hecht scoring three assists, has his second three-point game in a row. The Sabres played without their co-captain Drury, as well as starters Spacek, Afinagenov, Kotalik, and Gaustad (out for season).
