Sabres 3, Flames 2
The Sabres reclaim their early-season swagger in a playoff-charged shootout victory over the Calgary Flames. Co-captain Daniel Briere, ties the game with 3:32 left with a “goal scorer’s move” while Ales Kotalik nets the only shootout goal using his patented backhand deke. Ryan Miller makes 23 saves in regulation and overtime, and stops all three Calgary shootout players. Thomas Vanek scores his 29th goal in the second period by forcing Calgary goalie out of position and capitalizing off of Derek Roy’s 27th assist of the season. The win against the Flames is the Sabres’ third straight, giving them a league-leading 80 points. Calgary has not won in Buffalo since 1996 victory in the (old) Memorial Auditorium.
