Issue Two
Letter from the Editor
Passion drives it.
Progression is what life is about.
Passion drives it. Integrity will sustain it.
Movement is what Traffic East is about. And the excitement of Traffic East is that, topically, we can go anywhere and everywhere—truly, a stimulating prospect. The concept is that we would like to engage our readers both visually and through the written word. Over time this will evolve into a special venue for up and coming and established writers, designers and artists alike. This issue, like our first is diverse and rich with imagery.
Mara Hoffman is moving the fashion world, and she will continue to move it. Her clothing "Circle" is more than just about fashion-it is her art. The circle represents life—and "what you put into it is what you take out." Totally uninhibited, at 24, Mara Hoffman walks with an open mind and the talent and desire to produce and succeed. The photo shoots with Mara (that’s her in the pictures) took us from the rooftops in Manhattan—to the top of the ice machine at Gigi’s Restaurant on East Ferry, in Buffalo.
Thad Weitz "draws" us into the world of heavyweight boxing and that of "throwback" boxer Joe Mesi. Thad’s in-depth profile warrants this issues cover piece. Thad, once again, has also contributed this issue’s "throwback" book review, re-reviewing James Dickeys "Deliverance." Well done Thad.
Keith Frome has contributed "A Literary Sense of Place." This is a must read as it questions how the art of literature can effect how we view the "place" around us. We are excited to have Keith on board. He will contribute regularly to Traffic East.
Once again JoAnn Falletta has written a great piece about Ludwig van Beethoven. And Ken Ruof writes about the life and music of cabaret singer Susan McCorkal. Daryl Crane takes us on another humorous trip to Disneyland this time.
The paintings and collages of Isabel Pellissier have greatly enhanced this issue. Stacey Swiantek emerges as our Food Editor and Jennifer Dicioccio is our Fashion/Style Editor.
One final note to the writers: Mary Van Vorst asked me about writers’ guidelines in a recent WBFO interview. I responded that we’re looking for writing from the "heart." Writers impassioned by their words. We do not want to inhibit our writers by placing guidelines on them. If you are true to yourself it will come through in what you write. Traffic East is and will continue to be an open forum.
Please Subscribe, Stay with us, and watch us evolve. I hope you enjoy the issue.
Just follow the lines and get caught in Traffic!
