Letter from the Editor
From its inception I have wanted Traffic East to be more than an ordinary magazine...
Progression is what life is about. Passion drives it. Integrity will sustain it.
From its inception I have wanted Traffic East to be more than an ordinary magazine. I have wanted it to be something special–something extraordinary. A publication as visually interesting as it is engaging editorially–fusing form and
function in print.
In keeping, I want our advertisers to feel good about the way they are represented in Traffic East. To achieve this I have placed an enormous effort on developing advertisements which effectively help brand our advertisers, and, by doing so, help to well represent and brand our city and region.
In this issue we are honored to have Edwidge Danticat as a contributor. Her piece, Lorraine Hansberry in the Snow is
on page 80. Lyrical and poetic in her prose–Edwidge is a beautiful writer. Her 2004 novel, The Dew Breaker, is available at bookstores nationally.
Karen and Jen’s interview with BOA editions publisher/editor Thom Ward, Thom Ward’s Mojo, is inspiring... What I
really like about this piece is what I really like about Thom Ward–his passion for his art and his passion for poetry.
Diversity in design by Laura Noe profiles architect/designer Emanuela Frattini Magnusson. The diverse scope of Emanuela’s talent is seemingly without limits. Emanuela belongs in Traffic East!
And of course we have much more, including poetry by 1996 Nobel Laureate Wislawa Szymboskra.
From all of us at Traffic East we wish all of you peace, and only the best for the holidays and the new year!
